Sorry, Tom, but you have your "Murphy Brown" mixed up. Bakula joined the cast in 1993 (season 6). The pregnancy arc was begun at the end of season 3 through the first half of season 4, both of which happened in 1991. The question of Avery's paternity was actually between Jay Thomas's Jerry Gold and Robin Thomas's Jake Lowenstein (Murphy's ex-husband). Lowenstein turned out to be the actual daddy.
