Those look like the likely picks to me. I really only care about a couple of contests this year --
I'd really like for Man On Wire to win the Best Documentary. I'm fascinated by people who are unafraid of heights. Gives me the creeps just looking at movies where a person is standing on the edge of a steep cliff, or up on top of a building. I'd love to see Mickey Rourke win for "The Wrestler." Damn, Mickey Rourke -- he was always a favorite of mine (Rumblefish, The Pope Of Greenwich Village, etc.). In fact, I kinda wish "The Wrestler" had been nominated for Best Picture, but I suppose you can't win them all, particularly if you're not nominated in that category....a lot of my favorite directors were nominated this year, however...happy about that. I'd love to see Robert Downey Jr. win for Supporting Actor (Tropic Thunder) but there's no way in hell Heath Ledger isn't going to take this baby down, way downtown to Chinatown for The Dark Knight. No way in hell. I'd also love to see Marisa Tomei win too, but that's only cuz I luv her. She's totally smoochy. Then again, Amy Adams is pretty smoocherific too, so what the heck. Give 'em all awards, that's what I say. Just being nominated is probably pretty cool. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Thomas Heald, Esquire" Best Picture Slumdog Millionaire Best Director Danny Boyle – Slumdog Millionaire Best Actor Mickey Rourke – The Wrestler Best Actress Kate Winslet – The Reader Best Supporting Actor Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight Best Supporting Actress Amy Adams – Doubt Best Original Screenplay Milk – Dustin Lance Black Best Adapted Screenplay Slumdog Millionaire – Simon Beaufoy Best Animated Feature WALL-E – Andrew Stanton Best Foreign Language Film Waltz with Bashir (Israel) in Hebrew – Ari Folman Best Animated Short Presto – Doug Sweetland Best Art Direction The Duchess – Michael Carlin, Rebecca Alleway Best Cinematography Slumdog Millionaire – Anthony Dod Mantle Best Costume Design Australia – Catherine Martin Best Documentary Feature Man on Wire Best Documentary Short The Witness - From the Balcony of Room 306 Best Film Editing Milk – Elliot Graham Best Live Action Short The Pig (Grisen) Best Makeup The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – Greg Cannom Best Original Score WALL-E – Thomas Newman Best Original Song "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionaire – A.
