That is a shame Kevin, because there were some really great films this
year (some of them were even nominated). Aside from the obvious
Slumdog and Milk (both great) I would highly recommend two lesser
known films nominated for their lead actors ("The Visitor" and "Frozen
River").

I have decided that I like Amy Adams, but I will be flabbergasted, and
disappointed, if she wins. Penelope Cruz kicked some serious ass in
what was a very good Woody Allen picture, and she deserves to win.
Nate Silver has fed his magic box all the relevant numbers and
predicts that Taraji P. Henson from Benjamin Button, will win that
category (because she is the only nominee from a film nominated for
Best Picture, which Nate says makes a big difference over the last 30
years). Button is a truly hideous film, but Henson is the very best
thing in it, and in fact if they cut out all of the parts that did not
have her in it they would have a pretty interesting little movie.
Melissa Tomei did a nice job in the Wrestler, (and took her clothes
off several times), and a lot of people seem to think she will get it.
It would not be a crime if she won (IMO because she really deserved it
for "In The Bedroom"), but seriously, Cruz is the class of this field.

The Wrestler is an interesting little character study and well worth
seeing, but I was not as impressed by it as so many others were. I
guess Rourke could argue that he deserves to win just for being alive
still (and Nate says he will win it because he has not won before and
Penn has), but this really should go to Sean Penn.

I am looking forward to the show
