Just look at movies made during the Depression in the thirties. All of the Busby Berkeley musicals, all of the screwball comedies featuring men in tuxes and women in gowns. It's obvious that people want conspicuous consumption in their entertainment during down times. For that matter, read a plot synopsis of Sullivan's Travels, or better yet, watch the movie. It makes the same point - people turn to entertainment to get away from their troubles, not see them reflected. Tom W --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV ....
