The financially troubled commercial network is considering cutting
back the long-running cop soap "The Bill" from twice a week in prime
time to once a week, giving their Regis-ish morning talk show "This
Morning" the summer off and dropping popular scripted dramas "Wire in
the Blood" and "Heartbeat" and the long-running bloody arts programme
"The South Bank Show," a remnant from the days when they were expected
to be at least a little cultural and "public service" as the BBC:

"Wire in the Blood" is about the only one of these series that has
gotten recent U.S. viewing--"South Bank" was a fixture of Bravo back
before it become the metrosexual channel (and I still recall unhappily
when, in an attempt to ride on "Biography"'s coattails, Bravo renamed
"South Bank" "Bravo Profiles," redubbed Melvyn Bragg's narration with
an American voice-over whenever possible and replaced Andrew Lloyd
Webber's "Theme and Variations" theme with a synthesized soundalike).
