THE DOG UPDATE The Dog and I both finally did get to sleep. Me with a clock radio turned on a couple rooms away. The last thing I did was readjust Pepper in his bed to his other side, not that it apparently mattered. He was just in pain regardless of position. At least the yelping picked back up shortly thereafter. And I don't know, around 9 a.m., I drifted off hoping and not hoping the dog would ... not be in pain and agony. It seems merciless not to have let him die with a human planned "end." Mother and Father Heald were around. Pepper crawled across the house and laid down at dad's feet and had company in his final moments. Finally gave in about 10 am. an hour after I decided I had to get some sleep for jury duty. An hour after I tried to tune out his excruciating cries. I woke around 6 p.m., and have been up since then ... probably catch 2 hours rest before heading to the jury pool. And the bed is now gone, his food is packed up in bags his bowls are emptied. His ropes are nowhere to be found. Dad did all the necessary C.S.I and crime scene cleanup. And Pepper Joplin Heald is now buried along with his bed in the backyard alongside Buffy, Sam, and "Scuba" (No, we didn't name that one.) I used to have a dog. We used to have a dog. But on to why you're here. 8 p.m. MMMMM. SMELL THE SYNERGY! Turk comes up with a brilliant cure for paralysis while watching ... 'SportsCenter" on "SCRUBS" (ABC). And "boom" goes the dynamite. SWEEPSPLOITATION GUEST STAR PATROL D. W. Moffett hires the crew of "LIE TO ME" (Fox) to weed out Friday Night Lies. The teams pick their restaurant names on the loathsome "CHOPPING BLOCK" (NBC). "INSIDE THE FBI" (Discovery) reveals what's really inside Mulder's desk. 8:30 p.m. TELE-GEBRA "Dilbert" + "Mr. Wizard" = "BETTER OFF TED" (ABC) 9 p.m. Carrie Underwood, Randy Travis, and Brad Paisley perform on the "ACADEMY OF AMERICAN IDOL COUNTRY MUSIC TRAPDOOR" (Fox). Sawyer lies on "LOST" (ABC). And for the first time, no doubt. Gabrielle Union joins the cast of "LIFE" (NBC). How many cast reboots does it get? 10 p.m. SWEEPSPLOITATION GUEST STAR PATROL Ashley Simpson-Wentz and hobby Pete battle the "CSI: NY" (CBS) team. Hey, what's this white powder? Oh right. Human bone. Conservatives on "GLOBAL WARMING: THE NEW CHALLENGE WITH TOM BROKAW" (Discovery) recommend that the money to save the planet be delivered to A.I.G. in a cashier's check. Ellen learns a secret about Patty on "DAMAGES" (FX). Should have known the psychic cat who can predict death would blab. TALK TALK * Haven't heard of the guys on with Jon and Stephen. * Tavis listens to Timothy Hutton and Thomas P.M. Barnett. * Dave chats with Craig Ferguson, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Modest Mouse (whose new video was directed by Heath Ledger) * Jay is sweet on Reese Witherspoon, Keith Olbermann, and Naturally 7 * Jimmy Kimmel loves Andy Samberg, Ashley Scott, and MSTRKRFT. * Craig loves Steven Wright and Rashida Jones, man. * Jimmy Fallon is duped by Clive Owen, Paul Teutul Sr., and Vampire Weekend --- CORRECTION: Our story on the Watchmen misidentified who watches them.
