I know what you mean.  I could not stand not being greeted by a cat when I came 
home.  It was so bad the last time (nearly 4 years ago), that I had a kitten 6 
days later.  Honestly, getting a new pet is the best "cure" for grief.  

BTW, to make this on topic (like Joe), current cat is named after Johnny 
Carson.
