Despite U.S. public TV's weakness for Britcoms with older protagonists, BBC1's "The Last of the Summer Wine," starting its *30th* season (over 36 years) Sunday night, doesn't seem to get shown too much over here--and in its home country, despite boasting deft comic character actors like Burt Kwok (Cato in the "Pink Panther" movies), Peter Sallis (the voice of Wallace) and Russ Abbott, it's never got the respect the Guardian's James Kettle thinks it deserves, especially in these days of one-camera ultraironic mockumentary sitcoms:
