Add to that any unscripted element(s), and it comes down to the director, stage manager, and host working in-concert. Bergeron had a background in radio, before Seacrest had even thought up his last name. Bergeron went on to do live and live-to-tape television for years before signing on to host the dance show. Bergeron is quick witted, can improvise, and knows how and when to hit his mark. Seacrest walked away from radio (and his failed talk show) having learned nothing about timing. He's buffooned his way through New Year's Rockin' Eve, where he only looks good in comparison to an old man who suffered from a near-crippling stroke (Seacrest also benefits from mostly pre-taped segments and an experienced director on DC's NY's RE). Bergeron manages to cover when stars faint, collapse, and break limbs. Seacrest can't get a panel of judges to shut up... and at least one of them is stoned at any given time. -- Kevin M.
