Alan Duncan, the MP who is the shadow leader of the House of Commons
for the Conservative Party (and is gay), was on the season premiere of
BBC1's long-running comedy panel quiz "Have I Got News for You" Friday
night and when the game got around to Carrie Prejean's sanctimony, he
called her a "bitch" and added, "If you read that Miss California has
been murdered you will know it was me, won't you."  The joke would've
been written off as in "HIGNFY"'s irreverent spirit--except that the
Tory tabloid the Daily Mail, virulently anti-BBC and not comfortable
with Duncan's gender preference (and a competitor with some of the
Beeb's for-profit ventures), decided to stir the pot, just like they
did with Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross' phone calls to Andrew Sachs
and Carol Thatcher's "golliwog" remark:
