Is Ferguson the only who ditches the walkout entirely? After the show intro
graphics, it's pretty much right on Craig at his mark. I don't count the cold
opens, where Scottish Conan Guy may or may not be on screen when they start.

Craig may have walked out in his traditional monologue phase right at the end
of the song. I don't remember.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with Conan basking in
the adulation of the crowd (for now, anyway) - it's got to be a stark
contrast to when he started on Late Night, so I'm willing to chalk it
up to indulgence. What is somewhat surprising, and a little
offputting at times, is his initial entrance from backstage.

When Ed McMahon introduced Carson, he'd step through the curtain
almost immediately. Same goes (in principle) for Leno. In both
cases, they were probably waiting on a mark right behind the curtain
for their 'go' cue. (See also: any episode of the Larry Sanders
Show.) Conan, on the other hand, waits for the large half-moon
curtain to open fully, revealing the proscenium, before he enters from
upstage left, adding at least 10 seconds to his entrance.

Again, this is a bout of the familiar - this was Conan's entrance
ritual from Late Night, except that Late Night didn't use a proscenium
curtain, so Conan could walk on as soon as Joel finished the
introduction. On the Tonight Show, the addition of the curtain and
the increased depth of the stage, necessitating a much longer walk to
the Sandals Resort Monologue Mark, drags out the entrance - and it's
compounded by the fact that Max & the band are essentially hitting the
last note of the theme music before Conan ever actually appears.
