I wasn't meaning to be negative in my assessment of Apple's pricing and products; they make beautiful, functional, often innovative stuff. My point was rather that you will never (or almost never) see Apple advertising in the genre of "buy now!!!! 20% off our lowest prices of the season!!!!!11!1!". Rather, they set the price and pretty much leave it there. Competing on price isn't their MO. And I agree: they optimize their configurations, rather than introducing a base level model of their stuff.
