Respectfully, I find fault with that logic. Nobody benefits more from digital vs. analog, except the corporations who can now send us the same garbage using less bandwidth. Imagine if, 25 years ago, Congress had issued a mandate that vinyl records and magnetic audio cassettes could no longer be used after a specific date. Instead, they allowed the free market to gradually phase out the new technology in favor of the old. The nation does not benefit from digital. Food isn't cheaper. Rent isn't cheaper. The substance we receive is the same. In exchange for the massive public inconvenience and the massive benefit to the corporations, the cost to the consumer wasn't reduced by even a penny. It goes against the basic concept of capitalism, it changes the shape of the public airwaves (which you and I co-own), without allowing the public a say in the matter. It was a bad move. Oh yeah, judging from the number of complaints lodged to to FCC over the summer (many cc'd to "Le Show"), the technology isn't perfected yet, which means users are forced to buy into something knowingly flawed. -- Kevin M.
