But it would have helped them to THINK about the impact such a move
would have on ALL their customers. I don't care how cheap modern TVs
get (and Mother J today was seeing one for under $150 at one of the
drug chains!), there are still going to be people with perfectly-
working equipment who ain't gonna part with it just 'cause a cabler
tells them to.

RCN doesn't have a heritage to contend with. They just inherited a
handful of systems from others, then built some more of their own.
Service Electric, OTOH, is one of the earliest cable providers, and is
choosing to respect their heritage while keeping up with technological
advancements. Unless something happens that we haven't talked about
here, they're able to do the amount of thinking that's going to be
needed here, and act accordingly.

And, David, RCN wanted to be able to pull the trigger on this before
the broadcast stations switched.
