Actually, I'd disagree on this point.  Most of the Icarus base
personnel have working-to-expert knowledge of the Ancient tech found
on Earth & Atlantis, so it stands to reason that if the Destiny (and
the shuttles) are a more primitive form of that technology, they'd at
least have a basic knowledge.  The shuttles are almost certainly the
precursors to SGA's puddlejumpers.

As to 'the ship refuels on stellar matter' being a cheat, I actually
saw this coming from the moment the ship altered course for the star.
If you're familiar with Star Trek, you know that the Enterprise has
something called [TECH] (just kidding - Bussard collectors, which are
a real thing) to collect deuterium from stellar matter for the
purposes of powering the ship's basic systems.  As soon as the Destiny
turned toward that star, I knew exactly how the episode was going to
end.
