In an LA Times op-ed Neal Gabler, who is very sharp on film history and was a sharp debater on "Fox Media Watch" before Fixed Noise kicked him and the other real liberals off the show, seems to be letting his own distaste for Conan (even if he doesn't like Leno that much more) fuel his argument that Leno's return to "The Tonight Show" is a victory for the Boomer generation over the pandering to young demos:
http://articles.latimes.com/2010/jan/23/entertainment/la-et-leno-demographic23-2010jan23 The problem here is that Leonard Goldenson came up with the strategy for going for young demos back in the early *60s,* when Boomers fit that demo (while Gabler makes it sound like the strategy was conceived around the time of Carson's retirement). In fact, the complaints Boomers have made lately about being ignored by modern media could be argued as the ultimate case of being hoisted by your own petard. And besides, isn't Conan on the cusp between Boomers and Gen X? It's not like NBC hired Nick Cannon to host "The Tonight Show." -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
