As it happens, CTV did televise the crash: once during a previously- scheduled torch relay news special, shortly after the crash occurred (but before the luger's death was confirmed), and once during a story at the beginning of their pre-opening ceremony coverage. Their usage seemed fairly judicious to my eyes, and I don't recall any slow-motion repeats being part of it.
I'm no prude, but I was more offended by the cross-promotional MuchMusic segment that came later on in CTV's ceremonies pre-game (VJs on location in Whistler partying in hot tubs or doing body shots). There was no advance warning to viewers or, apparently, to the CTV hosts / producers. It seemed inappropriate for what had clearly been marketed as a broadcast for all ages.
