As a Californian, I can attest that an 8.8 qualifies as a "big one." And as I woke up and switched to CNN's coverage online, I started to think about the potential repercussions of such a quake along the coast. And no sooner had I thought that when KHON appeared as an option on CNN.com's Live feed.
KHON's coverage of disaster preparedness has been surprisingly good. We're just about three hours from the tsunami hitting Hilo, and KHON has used everything they have, from traffic cams to Skype feeds, to cover the story. There honestly hasn't been tremendous repetition in the coverage. Mostly, they've been trying to find scientists and officials to interview. And so far, they haven't been reduced to man-on-the-street interviews, asking the common man what he is doing to prepare. I wish the residents of Hawaii (as well as all those in the danger zone) good luck as the aftermath approaches. I pray for the Chilean people. And I genuinely hope we don't have to be subjected to another boring f-ing telethon. http://www.cnn.com/video/flashLive/live.html?stream=1 -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV ....
