I feel that the wire was one of the best shows I have seen, but it seems that I like it for the reasons you disliked in how they handled stringer's death. I am not quite sure what you wanted out of this scene as far as realism I think it was handled in a pretty realistic manner. Most shows would have had Stringer deliver some grandiose final speech or have a prolonged back and fourth where stringer begs for his life and makes all kinds of promises but that is just punched up TV drama . Stringer made his plea to Omar and Brother Mouzone and they more or less ignored it. They went in with a plan and did not deter. Stringer realized he had no way out and didn't bother grandstanding he just told them to get on with it. Now I am not going to claim I am involved in this culture but I think this is a much more true-to-life portrayal than you will find anywhere else. It was a simple plan, the two people who were executing it set up, waited for stringer and then didn't waste any time doing what had to be done. I think they could have made the scene have greater emotional impact but I feel the point is that in this "game" the players are changing all the time and someones death is not necessarily a big dramatic moment it is just an event and I think that's how it was portrayed. Differences aside The Wire is a hell of a show, have fun watching the remainder of it.
