As part of an online television survey, I watched the pilot (I think the whole
thing, though there's a plot hole that makes me wonder) of "No Ordinary
Family." This is the new project for Michael Chiklis (The Shield) and Julie
Benz (Dexter) involving a family who discovers they have superpowers. Think
"The Incredibles" if all four Parrs discovered their superpowers in the first
half of the movie. It's an ABC show and Greg Berlanti (Everwood, Brothers and
Sisters) co-wrote the script.
I think it's a good show, if you can make generalizations from a pilot. It has
the typical pilot expositional slowness, and the two teenage kids weren't as
well developed, character-wise, as their parents. It has a kind of soapy feel
that many ABC family dramas do, at least where the family dynamic is concerned.
If later episodes manage to figure out the show's balance between humor and
drama, it could work.
That said, it's an interesting show on ABC, so I suspect it will have as
successful of a run as "Better Off Ted."
On a slightly related note, reports are coming out that "Incredibles" director
Brad Bird will helm the next Mission Impossible flick.
