I will partially agree. It was clearly the best episode of the series, but I
don't think it was in the same league as the best episodes from shows like
Numb3rs, CSI (original), L&O (original) or even NCIS: DC. And I can think of
several episodes of "In Plain Sight" that have been significantly better. I
know what Kevin means about the HLOTS feel, but those guys were writing at
the graduate level, while this show is still more of a promising high school
senior at its best. I will say this much - NCIS:LA is so far more promising
than either of the CSI spin-offs have been.

I don't mean to be picky - of course there is an element of just personal
taste at work here. But I think this episode illustrates how this show is
still trying too hard to assert its voice. They are forcing their characters
to take a stance of world weariness, or cynicism, or special expertise, or
mysteriousness, that they have not really earned. In that sense this episode
will help several of the characters build some foundation for the
characteristics the writers seem to want to give them.

I am not sure what the standard time period should be before discussing key
elements of this show, even with spoiler space. I will wait till we get to
the full week, and if I still am thinking about it will post a question or
two related to this episode.
