I won't say Miller is better than Scully (who I grew up with) but I would put him up against the 5 - 7 guys I have heard pretty regularly doing local games for teams other than the Giants - including non-Scully Dodger broadcasters, and those who do Angels games. I have listened to Miller over the long haul, for many years now; I guess I know what you mean about the ego and sense of self - but I think he actually cuts through it himself pretty often, and is capable of self-depreciating humor. Krukow and Kuiper (who I have grown to like over the years, but they are clearly for locals and homers only) tend to feed into that kind of hero worship. Actually, one of the things I like about Joe Morgan (and I have come to realize how many people outside of Northern California hate his broadcasting work) is that he pretty often disagrees with Miller in the booth. The thing is, Miller really is that good, so he would have to be a moron not to know it. Is Scully still doing games solo, without an analyst? I know he has cut back his workload in some way (does he only do home games or something like that?) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
