Here's the new theme song: http://www.hulu.com/watch/154919/the-tonight-show-with-jay-leno-new-theme-song#s-p3-sr-i1
I sat through the monologue of Monday's episode on Hulu, only to realize NBC cuts the band out of the Hulu edit of the show, I'm guessing so they don't have to pay music license fees. Wow, did the monologue fall flat on Jay's face. But back to the band. Decent horn section. I wasn't hearing any "action" (for lack of a better term) from the new keyboardist. But the biggest WTF part of the band is a guy standing behind and to the side of the new bandleader. I watched him in the above clip. I watched him on Monday night's episode. Maybe he does more elsewhere in the show, but during the theme song, he just stands there, periodically clapping. For all I know, the guy is a legend in the world of music (maybe even a lost member of the Marsalis family). But during the theme song he really needs to, at the very least, stand behind all of the musicians who are actually playing. Regarding the new theme song, I don't mind it, but I prefer the one Branford Marsalis wrote (just to show I can be critical of Kevin and Company, the one Eubanks wrote for the 10pm show and modified for Jay's return to late night was a musical train wreck). Well, to be honest, I prefer Johnny's Theme, but I certainly would not want it played over Leno's entrance. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
