Craig has supposedly had some input on his musical guests, based on bands he's
seen around L.A. Having been a punk rocker back in the day, this makes some
sense.

He's also asked at least one guest (Alicia Witt) to come back and perform as
the
music guest. She's supposed to be on July 1. Robert David Hall from CSI was
on
Thursday night, and I can't see a record company dictating that.

I would admit, however, that there's probably a different set of expectations
at
11:30 vs. 12:30. Comparing Letterman and Conan in their different shows might
be instructive.

I'm also quite sure Colbert and Stewart are booking musical acts mostly on
their
own tastes.

Could you explain that further? Do you mean that the record companies, not
Tonight Show producers, determine which acts get booked? How so? How does
that work?

It is the same with Letterman, Kimmel, Craig, etc.?

As I've said before, I cannot believe that aging boomers such as Letterman,
Leno, etc. like, or have any kind of appreciation for, many of the musical
acts they have on their shows.

Thanks.

Carson openly disliked rock music and consistently preferred opera
singers and show tunes. By the time Leno came along the record
companies had control over which acts would be booked and Leno didn't
have the leeway to inflict his personal taste. And he's certainly too
savvy to disparage an act while they are appearing on his show.
