Media outlets like CBS and cable channels like Cartoon Network have
put entire episodes, clips of shows, and their back catalogs on
YouTube, which is a nice gesture. I'm not usually in the mood to watch
every episode of "ALF" back-to-back, but if I was, I could do so
online commercial free -- except on my iPad.
The official channels are configured not to play on mobile devices, so
shows I would want to watch on YouTube ("Soap," "MacGyver," and "Star
Trek" to name but a few) are unavailable unless I track down and play
the illegal bootleg versions that also happen to be on YouTube. I
don't get the logic in that. They're basically saying I can't watch
their programing legally, but they aren't preventing me from viewing
the illegal uploads on the site.
