I knew that Carell had announced he was leaving, but what is news is this article confirms NBC will continue the show without him. I agree with you that this season wasn't as strong as recent years, which was why I was hoping NBC would take the opportunity of Carell's departure to wrap the show up. Additionally, considering how many years the "documentary" has been shot, the only plausible ending I could envision for the series was the revelation that Carell's character had personally spent his life savings to have the documentary produced (I pictured the last shot of the series featuring Michael Scott sitting alone in his living room watching the pilot episode).
