I have been anticipating some Hawaii Five-0 Marathons coming up, and noticed
tonight that there will be one on Spike starting August 30 through at least
September 3 (that is last one noted on my TiVo, but perhaps there will be
more?).
I am a fan of the show (especially the early seasons) but I don't have the
episode names memorized or anything. But since I have been looking for this
I have been checking Netflix (disks only) and wikipedia, and so while making
recording arrangements noticed that the Spike episodes seem to be all from
Season 1, mostly in order (with repeats each day), with a few exceptions:
1. They are not showing the pilot, which the wikis list as episode 1
("Cocoon"). Does that just mean the pilot is not generally part of a
season's release (it does not seem to be on the Netflix DVD either).
2. The second episode they are showing is titled "A Stranger in His Grave"
(1978). This is the only episode not from Season 1 (1968-69) but from Season
10 (episode 23 of that year). However, episode #2 (not counting the Pilot)
from Season 1 is called: "Strangers in Our Own Land". Is it possible this is
a mistake? And if so, which mistake is it? Will Spike actually show episode
#2 from season 1, and they just wrote out the wrong episode title from a
long list of Five-0 episodes, confusing two that look a lot a like? Or is
Spike actually going to show the Season 10 episode, mistakenly thinking it
is from Season 1? Or is it not a mistake, but an attempt by Spike to fool
viewers into thinking they are seeing episode #2 from Season 1 (which for
some reason is not available)? This last seems unlikely, as my memory is
that the look and tone of Season 10 is quite different from Season 1.
Anyway, I have scheduled all of them for recording, so I will find out
eventually.
3. They are reversing the order of episode #6 and #7 (i.e. showing #7 before
showing #6). I know that sometimes episodes are aired in a different order
in which they were shot or originally intended to be shown for a variety of
reasons - did something like that happen here (the wikis seem to be silent
on this).
While I am on Five-0, questions about the impending re-imagination. I
thought I had heard they were not going to use the original theme, but I saw
a commercial for it last weekend on CBS and they were definitely playing the
original theme to hype it. Does anybody know the answer to this? And
please, tell me they are going to have real Hawaiian beauties in bikinis
somewhere in the opening? (my wife is a real Hawaiian beauty, who looks not
unlike one of the girls in the original). I suspect years of watching this
show programmed me to marry her.
