Here's the big problem. Kids today -- and many adults -- don't
differentiate between cable and broadcast. Most still understand the
concept of premium channels, with whatever the number is of cable
households (I think upwards of 90% of America), that line has blurred
forever for the average viewer.

The other problem is the fickle (I actually mistyped that as fuckle,
which in hindsight is a nice word and I'd like to get a patent on it)
collection of broadcast network executives who seem determined to drop
traditional formats of shows from their lineups in favor of pop
formats like reality TV or game shows, so it would not be unexpected
to have too few sitcoms or dramas on any given year.

So you'd end up with a lack of contenders and viewer confusion.
