The show is in Hawaii, so why not keep them all in skin?

Actually, the show works best if the two hot Asians walk around in their
underwear and they keep the haoles in suits, though I guess they would be in
open to charges of exoticizing and sexualizing the locals.

I am about 2/3 of the way through watching the episodes from season 1 of the
original Hawaii Five-O; I am not sure the details of the plot of those shows
are all that memorable either.

Kevin notes the danger of this being NCIS: Honolulu. But that is a strange
loop - the original Five-O was an uber procedural in its day. It was the
first show I remember (though I'm sure there were earlier one's before my
time) to rely heavily on forensic evidence, and team rooms with black boards
and photos of suspects pinned up. In a typical episode after discovering the
crime scene Steve goes back to his office and deploys his troops, giving
each a part of the job to research, while he confronts a few likely bad guys
and then eventually puts the pieces together supplied by his underlings. I
guess it will seem less NCIS-ish when they get further away from the Navy,
and focus more on local crime.

To me, the point of updating this show is to take advantage of modern
photography and loser broadcast standards to show the beautiful locations
and people the setting affords, and maybe explore the contrast between
controlling law and order on the one hand and nature or self-indulgence on
the other. At its best Five-O was never one of the really great dramas in
television history, but it was iconic of the popular culture of its time.
