I finally finished watching it. I'll probably give it one more episode but the pilot didn't do much for me. None of the characters were intriguing. This McGarrett is too wooden. The Dano is meh. Grace Park in a bikini and underwear is nice, but I don't know how many times they can get an excuse to get her semi-naked. Everything is predictable. What if the Chin Ho character had actually been guilty of taking bribes? Look how much more interesting "Dexter" is when you find out his father was a womanizer. Or look at the character on "The Wire" who was dirty once and then became clean. The frenetic editing gives me a headache. I appreciate shows like "Mad Men" or "Breaking Bad" where they can let the camera linger for an extra second or two on an actor to help convey emotion. Too much network TV is edited for a nation on Ritalin. I liked the joke about having the screeching from "Psycho" to be Dano's ring tone. But the humor seemed forced, too. Maybe this is why so many network TV shows fail. Viewers like me don't give the characters a chance to develop.
