Eh. What I find more egregious is the formulaic editing some shows have. Hell's Kitchen has gotten to the point where I'm reaching for my remote before the commercial starts because it's so obvious that it's coming from the music and sequence of camera shots. (And then, in a move that only Fox seems to do, they replay the last few seconds before the break started immediately after the commercials end, in case we forgot, so I don't have to be terribly precise about when I start and stop the DVR, either.)
However, I noticed TAR's "Clangers of Stupidity" -- a series of hits of a cymbal or some other metallic instrument that's played after a moment of extreme ignorance about foreigners/foreign countries or when somebody makes a decision which is obviously bad -- on HK the other night and hoped it wasn't part of a trend, partly because that particular FX seems very easy to overuse, given how harsh it sounds. -- David J.
