Andy Denhart doesn't mention that sound I first heard accompanying
Chef Ramsay's sternest glares on "Hell's Kitchen" and now seemingly on
every other reality show, but he does point out that certain sounds
and musical cues have become so cliched by overuse that they're just
like a laugh track on a sitcom:

Of course, one-camera sitcoms have created their own equivalents of a
laugh track: Overuse of voice-over narration, overly cutesy
underscores (which do avoid a trumpet going "WAH WAH WAH" on a
punchline, but come close), obvious reaction shots. And let me just
say that it seems like every ABC drama series has the music
underscore, and it's Marc Cherry's fault.
