Walters was a professional. She remained cool throughout the whole ordeal. Anyone who has not heard the talk she gave as part of the 92nd Street Y's lecture series (now part of iTunes U) should check it out. It is from years ago, but still speaks to her character and the choices she makes on the air.
I'm sorry, but "The bad man said something we didn't like so we little girls ran away to pout" is not a defensible position. And it wasn't a protest -- it was cowardice. A protest is what you do when you are denied something -- when you can't get in. They were in and walked out. As I've said before, I've never found Joy Behar to be either intelligent or funny, but I am a fan of Whoopi Goldberg's and was disappointed when she stormed off the set. Anyone who saw her Bravo special a few years back knows she can speak intelligently about issues of race, sexuality, liberty, and America as well as anyone. I firmly believe she could chew O'Reilly up and spit him out if she set her mind to it. I'd link to Bill Burr's podcast because he handled their reaction in a humorous tone, but as Burr admitted, iTunes isn't cooperating with his podcast right now, so only people who have already subscribed to his podcast can download it. Burr also tried O'Reilly's line to Behar, "Shut up and you might learn something" on his girlfriend with amusing results.
