Running commentary on the rally, which is now available on C-Span's website:
http://www.c-span.org/Special/Live-Social.aspx The Roots: more cowbell. Great to see Father Guido again. Sam Waterston as "the most seemingly reasonable man in America" was a nice touch, especially the "tonk tonk" as his intro music. Yusef, a.k.a. Cat Stevens, a.k.a. "Joe" brought a touch of old school class to the event. And as much as I'm tired of people trucking Ozzy's nearly dead carcass onto stages, he provided the right counter-balance. The 7-year-old made me laugh. "From gay men who like football to straight men who like 'Glee'..." The Kid Rock song wasn't bad, but two raspy voiced singers cannot sing two-part harmony. It ends up sounding like chain smokers coughing. It would've been funnier if Kareem had made an "Airplane!" reference. Jon Oliver is going to get made fun of on next week's Bugle podcast. Jon Stewart getting real was right on the edge of being too much, but I think he brought enough of the funny to keep it entertaining. That said, I don't necessarily agree with every point he made. Tony Bennett sounds better the older he gets. Bringing R2D2 and the 7-year-old back on stage for the curtain call was inspired. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
