I was somewhat sympathetic until I got to the fact that his wife's medication was put in checked luggage, the premise being that she needed to take another dose in 8 hours, but they were going to be home in 6. You can't predict when there's going to be a delay in air travel, and I'm surprised Kevin Smith and/or his wife -- who've probably flown more often than me in their lives -- didn't account for that. Just a couple weeks ago, I was on a Continental flight from Newark to LAX that left right on time, but got into LAX 2 hours late -- a passenger got sick, and the flight ended up landing in Albuquerque to get him to a hospital. Then the plane had to be refueled, and have a maintenance check performed due to being slightly over "legal" weight on the landing. I think a similar sequence of events on a Virgin America JFK-LAX flight would have caused even more of a delay. (Albuquerque was basically right on our planned flight path and is served by Continental anyway, so they could make the fuel and maintenance arrangements relatively easily; the only airport VA serves anywhere in "flyover country" is Dallas-Ft. Worth.) -- Jim Ellwanger <[email protected]> <http://www.ellwanger.tv> -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
