Details from WIS-TV via WBTV: CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg SWAT team were at the studios of WSOC-TV news in Charlotte after someone armed with a gun entered the building and a shot was fired.
Police in Charlotte say an armed person barricaded themselves inside a television station building in Charlotte, firing at least one shot. A woman was taken into custody at about 5:40 pm after the incident began just before 5 pm. WSOC-TV anchor Blair Miller tweeted from the situation "Not on air. Distraught woman with gun in lobby. Police have building surrounded. Employees evacuated." Police also confirmed to WBTV that the WSOC-TV News building was evacuated and is off the air because an armed person was barricaded inside the building. Police told WBTV that the incident started just before 5 pm. WSOC was on the air with commercials only until about 5:15, but then went black and was still off the air at 5:45 pm. A producer at WSOC tweeted that all of the employees from the newsroom were all evacuated to the back lot. "Evacuation happened approx. 5:05 during my show," producer Katie tweeted. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, a person was in the lobby with a gun. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's SWAT team responded to the station. *Copyright 2010 WBTV.
