A few series ago on the UK version, the boys did a race between Bugatti Veyron (with Jeremy at the wheel) and a light aircraft (James flying & Richard in the back, complaining most of the time). More recently, they did the Nissan GT-R (Jeremy) vs. Japanese Public Transport (again, Richard & James), and Ferrari Daytona (Richard) vs. SS Carbon Fiber Loo (James on a multi-million dollar superboat, mostly navigating with someone else at the helm). It's hardly uncommon for the UK presenters to be passive participants in one of their "epic races", although they're more comfortable on camera, so they're better at making it entertaining.
Considering how much less time the US version has per episode than the UK mothership, I'd prefer to see tighter editing on the films, but overall I'm still convinced that they're doing OK for a first season show. With the caveat that I haven't watched last night's episode yet, I'd have to say that while I'd been liking Rutledge's stuff so far, I'm coming around to the idea that he might be dead weight. He's certainly got the right personality for the show - we saw that in the bootlegging challenge from a couple of weeks back, but maybe that was because he was off-script. I dunno. I'm also warming to Adam - I still think his studio segments and interviews are too stiff, but he was really good in the Florida Keys race film. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
