I generally enjoy sitcoms. Not just the 'good' ones like Modern Family. I actually really enjoy Outsourced, and every time I read a negative review of it, I'm certain I must be watching a different show.
But I seem to have limits, and Perfect Couples crossed it. The opening montage was horrible. I literally asked, out loud, if it was supposed to be funny. There was no one to hear me, and I don't usually talk out loud to myself, but it was truly awful. And it was downhill from there. Like Kevin, I really like Olivia Munn, and I do want her to succeed. Kevin's right, she seemed very restrained, which seems to be as the character was written, but I have no interest in seeing Olivia like that. This is someone who, though clearly not entirely comfortable, will none the less keep her promise of dressing as a French maid and dive into a vat of pudding, on Attack of the Show. So why would they cast her in this role? I also enjoyed Kyle Bornheimer on Worst Week. So between Kyle and Olivia, I was looking forward to this show. After the horrible opening, it just got worse. One character, whose name escapes me, is written as the guy who thinks the world revolves around him. This type of character can sometimes be good for a lot of laughs. Not in this show. I wanted to punch him. Everytime he spoke. I'm the kind of viewer that networks love because I usually tune into a block of sitcoms and watch them all, even if there's one that's not very good. Yes, I'm usually too lazy to change the channel. I still didn't change the channel during this show, but by the end I was ignoring it while playing around on my iPod Touch. Maybe the last ten minutes were good. No idea. The first 20 minutes were deadly. I don't care. Next week I'll probably still be too lazy to change the channel, but I'll make sure my iPod Touch is handy when this show comes on.
