I've caught two installments of the PBS doc about the "golden age" of television, and I'm left wanting. I appreciate some of the interview subjects they were able to get (probably the last interview with the late Robert Culp and Stephen J. Cannell, for instance), but they didn't really do much with them. They failed to secure the rights to any of the music and instead used those cheesy almost-versions of themes (for that reason, I'd guess, they don't seem to be mentioning the impact music made on the success of some of the shows they spotlighted). I suppose the claim could be made that they couldn't be expected to really be comprehensive when they only have an hour for each genre, but I don't see why they had to limit themselves to that hour. Ken Burns could do a three month long documentary about going to the bathroom, but these folks can't take some time and cover the material they purport to cover?
Nice concept, poorly executed. It has been nice seeing some of the old faces and places, but they barely scratched the surface. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
