On Friday, in the biggest surprise so far in renewal season, Fox gave the J.J. Abrams SFer "Fringe" a fourth season despite mediocre-at-best numbers and an incompatible Friday night lead-in of Chef Ramsay and "Kitchen NIghtmares":
