I have recollections of this happening (where a pxp guy was subbed out mid-broadcast), but it is usually in a local situation (where you might have an extra body in the radio booth or the pregame host). It would not surprise me in the least that Buck thought he'd be fine, only to have things go downhill fast. Besides: you really want nothing but Tim McCarver for nine innings?
