I watched the premiere episode on my DVR this evening. I was surprised by how much I liked it, considering that I have never really gotten into American Idol, which is its closest US-based cousin to date (although ISTR that the judge-as-mentor arrangement and use of groups are both features of The X Factor). There's a warmth and a chemistry that even the newer, cuddlier, post-Simon Idol doesn't have. -- David J. Lynch [email protected]
