Sugar takes the Labour whip? I thought he had been advising the Tories?

Subject: Re: [TV orNotTV] Apparently the UK Apprentice is just as rubbish as in
the US

The new series of The Apprentice just started a couple of weeks ago, and still
does pretty good figures. It's also still a non-celebrity show (the celebrity
versions have just been short-run charity things).

Interestingly, the previous run of The Apprentice was delayed because Lord Alan
Sugar takes the Labour whip, and since the regular scheduling (April-Jun '10)
would have covered the election period, the series was delayed until after the
election. The whole Trump business you've been enduring would have meant, over
here, that the series would have been yanked immediately.

In the current iteration, the prize has changed from a £100,000 salaried job to
a £250,000 (value) investment into a joint venture. With any luck that will
shake out the disappointingly large percentage of "business" hopefuls who's
main
interest seems to have been in the business of television. I must admit that
it's one of the few reality shows I watch even if it makes a nonsense of
business for the most part.

Sugar isn't quite the same as Trump. He's a self-made man in the Branson style,
but came to attention through a series of consumer electronics. He does share
with the Trump the fact that he's not as successful as he's sometimes painted,
although having recently sold his satellite box manufacturing division to
Murdoch, he's certainly not doing badly.
