Robert Smigel produced an excellent Saturday TV Funhouse for "Saturday Night
Live" two Saturdays ago. It's worth mentioning.
It starts out as as a standard episode of "The Ambiguously Gay Duo" but
morphs from the cartoon to a live-action film. Ace and Gary are played by
Jon Hamm and Jimmy Fallon. The bad guys are played by Stephen Colbert, Steve
Carrell, Ed Helms (who was hosting SNL that night) and Fred Armisten.
Obviously the actors all worked for scale. But I'm curious about Smigel's
budget for that episode. I'm guessing NBC invested more money into it with
hopes of making it back with commercials from Web views ad maybe iTune
sales. Anyone have information about that?
