I don't have much left in me to express loyalty to a particular
network anymore, but G4 has always struck me as sometimes subversive,
and very tongue-in-cheek when it comes to its own branding. I'd
compare "Attack of the Show" in its prime to the fx (lowercase
intentional) cable network's "Breakfast Time," not in content, but in
overall attitude.

Perusing my mom's cable listings, there are roughly 70 channels
devoted to sports of all sorts, and those are just the English
language networks. There are not more than two channels devoted to
fanboys and geekdom, and one could argue that G4 has done as so many
other networks have, turning its back on its core audience by
attempting to broaden its appeal. But if I had to choose between
another sports channel or a halfhearted channel devoted to technology,
gaming, comics, and the threads that bind those interests together,
I'd prefer the UFC deal not go through.
