The real big story might've been that the NATAS panel members avoided, for the most part, having "AMC" or "OLTL" cast members (or, for that matter, "As the World Turns," which did run first-run episodes in the eligibility year and was nominated) open cans of whoopass against the networks that cancelled them (the only major "AMC" winner, Younger Actress Brittany Allen, was more concerned with herself and winner for best actor Michael Park of "ATWT" took the high road in his acceptance), although the crowd in the balcony booed host Wayne Brady (who I'm sure they personally blame for "Guiding Light"'s cancellation) when he mentioned the two cancelled shows and later Susan Lucci made a general statement that "daytime TV is alive!"-- Lifetime Achievement co-winner (with his stablemate Pat Sajak) Alex Trebek stayed in his seat when "Jeopardy!" tied with "Wheel of Fortune" for best game show, while Pat and Vanna joined showrunner of both shows Harry Friedman on stage--And "Cash Cab"'s Ben Bailey was late to collect his second Emmy for game show host because he was otherwise occupied, if you get my drift (and he hinted that his participation in "Cash Cab" has pretty much come to an end):
http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/06/19/daytime-emmys-2011/ For the first time, the kiddie shows were shunted off en masse to the Creative Arts ceremony (Nick's "Pirates of Madagascar" and PBS' "Electric Company" remake won the series awards), the better to run mawkish PSAs for charitable organizations that paid to be on the time buy telecast, along with the categories that the "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" was nominated--Stewart and Colbert were beaten in the Special Class Program category by MTV's "Made" and lost their other nominated categories. "ATWT" fans will be glad to know that in the only category it was nominated in, "The Talk" lost in hair styling to Wendy Williams and her flotilla of wigs--the Creative Arts winners: http://www.emmyonline.org/mediacenter/daytime_38th_creative_winners.html -- TV or Not TV ....
