best actor Michael Park of "ATWT" took the high road in his acceptance.
Unless he posted an acceptance speech online, he didn't accept in person
because he's in the Broadway production of "How To Succeed In Business
Without Really Trying" with that Potter kid.
And "Cash Cab"'s Ben Bailey was late to collect his second Emmy for game
show host because he was otherwise occupied, if you get my drift.
In award-show circles, they call it pulling a Lahti. (see Globes, Golden --
1998).
For the first time, the kiddie shows were shunted off en masse to the
Creative Arts ceremony (Nick's "Pirates of Madagascar" and PBS' "Electric
Company" remake won the series awards), the better to run mawkish PSAs for
charitable organizations that paid to be on the time buy telecast.
And winning the irony award: I noticed that during the hearing-aid PSA, most
of it wasn't closed-captioned.
