I suspect it's more the logistics than the talent. Surely anyone who signs
up to so much as a pilot is in fact signing up for a theoretical five year
run? I thought that was pretty standard.

The shows that get the quick greenlights for second or subsequent series
these days definitely tend to fall into the "lots of pre- or post-production
required" category.

I've not caught Falling Skies yet (we're getting it about a week behind the
US), but it looks like there's a certain amount of SFX required. And even if
it's much cheaper these days, it still requires time.
