It is dangerous working across the street from Amoeba Records on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. I'm buying too many albums. Even though they typically only run five bucks or so, I could easily drop my entire paycheck in the store.
Among today's purchases is a little gem in the cutout section. From 1973, "The Odd Couple Sings" featuring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman in character as Felix and Oscar. No barcode on the album jacket, so this was either a promotional copy or the album was given to a radio station, though I cannot imagine anyone outside of Dr. Demento would ever play it. Noteworthy is their -- to say the least -- unusual rendition of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" as well as the old Vaudeville diddy, "When Banana Skins Are Falling I'll Come Sliding Back To You." But the oddest of the odd is side two of the album "The Odd Couple Opera," an attempt to stage an episode of the series in operatic form. As luck would have it, the album is available for listening on a fan site, but my copy is actually much cleaner. I also have the "hand-written" note from Oscar and Felix explaining the album. http://www.oddcouple.info/?q=node/18 -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
