Well, in both cases the challenge involved 4WD vehicle(s) going from the Mojave Desert to Las Vegas, so I don't consider this either cheating or cheap. The US show has taken pains to not copy the mothership when they tackle similar topics, and I think they succeed. This would seem to be the first instance of the US film being first.
